Piers Morgan moves to Youtube from TalkTV

Piers Morgan, one of the most controversial presenters moves to Youtube from the British television and radio channel TalkTV. Press Gazette reported on Friday.

According to UK based Press Gazette, Piers Morgan is ending his nightly show on the channel. He is going continuing to focus on Youtube.

In the meantime, Piers has announced his leaving from TalkTV daily evening show of News UK.

Morgan joined News UK on a three-year deal in April 2022 which was worth £50m.

It included Morgan’s nightly hour-long TV show Uncensored, a weekly column in The Sun, documentaries and a book deal.

The show was initially broadcast out of a purpose-built studio in West London but since December 2022 it has been filmed at News UK’s London Bridge HQ as a cost-cutting move.

In a statement Morgan, 58 said: “It’s clear there’s a huge global demand for the content we’re making, but the commitment to a daily show at a fixed schedule, with all the editing and time sensitivities that involves, has been an increasingly unnecessary straitjacket.

“People are watching the content on Youtube rather than conventional television and I have no problem with that. You can’t defy audiences or tell them how they should be consuming.

“I could happily interview Elon Musk for three or four hours tomorrow and the audience would lap it up. But the nightly restriction of having to go into a studio at 8pm when sometimes there is nothing happening and literally fill time? Nobody wants that. The question becomes, why do it?”

Last Thursday night was the final episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored on TalkTV. Mike Graham is taking Morgan’s slot from Monday.

Morgan is one of Britain’s most controversial television presenters, and he’s often overstepped the mark. One such example was on International Women's Day in 2022, when he tweeted, 'Is International Women's Day over yet? I'm starving!', seeming to insinuate that a woman should cook meals for a man.

In March 2021, his criticism of Oprah's interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on “Good Morning Britain” led him to quit the program.

In 2018, he accused the pop group Little Mix of using their sex appeal to sell albums instead of using their talent.

And, he criticised Julia Roberts for possessing body hair on her armpits, despite it being natural for women to have hair, backing up a social expectation for them to be shaved.

Morgan was also accused of hacking phones in 2011, but denied knowledge of hacking during his tenure as editor of The Daily Mirror.

At the Leveson Inquiry, it was said that his defence was unpersuasive and that he must have been aware of the phone hacking occurring in the press.

He hosted 'Good Morning Britain', a morning chat show in the UK, from 2015 to 2021. On a show he was often criticised by viewers for his debating style, in which he would not allow people to respond to questions. He quit the show when he was challenged on one of his views by one of his colleagues live on air.
