Nine killed, 2,750 hurt in Hezbollah pagers explosions

Hezbullah pager explosion in Lebanon

At least nine people, including a girl, have been killed and 2,750 wounded in simultaneous explosions of pagers used by Hezbollah members across Lebanon.

The Lebanese group says it holds Israel “fully responsible” for the explosions. Al Jazeera reported.

The country's health minister, Firas al-Abiad, confirmed the explosion and the casualties in the pager. He said most of the injuries were on the face, hands, arms and stomach of the injured.

A pager is also called a beeper or bleeper. It is basically a wireless telecommunication device through which audio messages can be received and transmitted. Thousands of pagers used by members of Hezbollah exploded around the same time.

Hezbollah blamed Israel for this terrible explosion in its communication network. However, Israel has not commented on this yet.

Attacks and counterattacks between Hezbollah and Israel have continued since the Gaza conflict began on October 7 last year. The conflict between the two sides has intensified recently.

Local Lebanese media reported that pagers exploded in various parts of the country on Tuesday (September 17). This includes the southern suburbs of Beirut, the Bekaa Valley and southern Lebanon.

Following the explosion, the country's Ministry of Health urged citizens who have pagers not to use them.

Iran's embassy in Lebanon as well as the country's state television reported that Mojtaba Amani, Iran's ambassador to Lebanon, was slightly injured in the pager explosion. His condition is not serious.

A pager similar to that used by members of Hezbollah was also used by the Iranian ambassador. That too exploded. The Pager blast is considered a major blow to the powerful Hezbollah.
