On Wednesday, Omar Abdullah, a leader of the National Conference, officially took the oath of office, marking the establishment of the first elected government in the Union Territory after a six-year hiatus.

Surinder Singh Choudhary, a party MLA who notably defeated the state BJP president Ravinder Raina, has been designated as the Deputy Chief Minister, ensuring representation for Jammu in the newly formed government.

The Congress has decided to refrain from joining the new Cabinet at this time, referencing its insistence on statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, a commitment made by the Centre. The party has affirmed its intention to persist in advocating for this cause.
