Hurricane Milton hit Florida, US |
Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key in Sarasota County on the west coast of Florida, USA. At that time, the maximum wind speed was 205 kilometers per hour.
Hurricane Milton has weakened to a Category 1, as per the latest update from the US National Hurricane Center (NHC).
It made landfall in Florida as a Category 3 storm on Wednesday, but later weakened from a Category 5.
President Joe Biden cautioned that it is anticipated to be one of the most destructive hurricanes to hit Florida in over a century.
The hurricane hit near Siesta Key, south of the heavily populated Tampa Bay area, less than two weeks after Hurricane Helene.
This is the first direct strike in over a century. Coastal residents have evacuated inland, and others are taking shelter as the storm moves across the state.
