Zebra stripes on cow, why?

At first glance it looks like a zebra. But these are actually cows. The owner has made zebra-like stripes with paint on the cow.

This strange phenomenon can be seen in the Yamagata area of Hongsu Island, Japan. However, there is a reason behind dressing the cow as a zebra. And that is to save cows from flies and moths.

Cow farmers in Yamagata have long maintained this practice of dressing their cows like zebras. For this mild bleach or spray paint is used, according to the local Mainichi newspaper.

Yamagata region of Japan is famous for Wagyu meat. Here farmers routinely turn to scientists to protect their herds. They researched for three years and found that striped cows like zebras are less attacked by flies.

Good quality wagyu meat is obtained from Japanese black breed cows. Farmers complained that these cows are more attacked by blood-sucking moths and flies. It affects the reproduction of cows. They were also afraid to let cows graze for fear of flies.

An official of the Yamagata region's agricultural promotion department said that after painting the cows zebra look, their anxiety was reduced. Cows can graze safely because of it.

The researchers did not explain any scientific reason as to why this kind of zebra arrangement reduces fly attacks. But the farmers there have already started dressing the cows like zebras. The farmers there are happy to see the zebra colored cows not attacked by other cows.
