Yemen's Houthis have a hypersonic missile, report claimed

Yemen's rebel group Houthi has claimed to have a new, hypersonic missile in it's arsenal. Russian state media reported this on  Thursday (March 14) citing a military source.

The missile can travel 8 times faster than sound, according to reports. It is potentially going to provide the Houthis more advantage in their ongoing attacks on shipping in the Red Sea and surrounding waterways against the backdrop of Israel's war on Gaza Strip.

The source said the missile could be used by the Iran-backed group to launch operations in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden as well as the Arabian Sea.

Houthi rebels have been attacking commercial ships sailing in the Gulf of Aden since mid-November last year on behalf of the Palestinians against the Israeli attack on Gaza.

The group says that the attack is being carried out in solidarity with the Palestinians against the Israeli attack on Gaza.

In response the United States and the United Kingdom are retaliating against the Houthis to keep commercial ships moving in the Red Sea.

On Thursday (March 14), the US military's Central Command (CENTCOM) said it had destroyed four drones and a missile in Yemen's Houthi-controlled areas.
