World's first 3D printed mosque inaugurated in Saudi Arabia

The world's first mosque using 3D printing technology was inaugurated in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The mosque, located in the Al-Jawhara suburb of Jeddah, was recently inaugurated. The news was revealed on Friday (March 8) in a report of Arab News.

From residential buildings to business establishments, cars to bridges, even pistols have been manufactured using 3D printing technology. Now mosques are being built using this technology.

Saudi Arabia showed the surprise of this new technology. A mosque with 3D printing technology is also being built in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The mosque is being built in Bur Dubai, the old city of the emirate, under the supervision of the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) of the Government of Dubai.

According to a report by Arab News, the mosque in Jeddah is named after the late Abdulaziz Abdullah Sharbatly as a tribute from his wife, famous Saudi woman entrepreneur and businesswoman Wajnat Abdulwahed.

The 5,600 square meter mosque has been funded by a leading real estate company named Fursan Real Estate, Abdul Waheed. And it is built by a famous Chinese company named Guanli which is renowned in the realm of three-dimensional printing technology.

In an interview with Arab News, Wajnat Abdulwahed explained the mosque's interior and exterior aesthetics, saying ''The design concept of the mosque was based on fostering a sense of tranquility among worshippers through the principle of gracious hospitality''.

The minarets were designed to make the mosque a distinctive landmark within the neighborhood. Moreover, the design of the open outdoor area was inspired by Hijr Ismail beside the Kaaba in the Grand Mosque, serving as an extension for worshippers outside the mosque during Friday prayers, taraweeh prayers in Ramadan and Eid.

All these details are embodied in the Abdulaziz Abdullah Sharbatly mosque, making it truly an iconic structure and the first of its kind in the world.

She said, the successful completion of the world's first 3D printed mosque has highlighted the collaborative efforts of various partners including Saudi government officials, business leaders and technologists.

Meanwhile, construction of a mosque with the same technology, namely 3D printing technology, is underway in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The mosque is being built in Bur Dubai, the old city of the emirate, under the supervision of the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) of the Government of Dubai.

Dubai already holds the world record for the largest 3D printed infrastructure. In August 2021, Dubai's Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid announced the emirate's '3D Printing Strategy'.

Originally, the special law was made to ensure the use of this technology in the construction of one-fourth of the buildings in the emirate by 2030.

Recently, ICAD said that the construction of this mosque will cost 30 times more than the construction of a mosque in general. However, the 3D printing method will reduce the waste of construction materials.

600 people can pray together in this mosque with an area of 2000 square meters. The construction of the mosque will begin in October this year.
