Why UK banning mobile phones in schools?

Mobile phones are being banned in schools in England. The British government already has drawn up guidelines to ban the use of mobile phones in the classroom.

According to BBC, the British government said the move was part of a plan to keep students focused on study and improve their behavior in the classroom. 

As a part of the guidelines, the use of mobile phones should be banned in schools in UK. Many schools have already banned phones.

 

The government says the change will ensure a consistent approach. Students will be allowed to keep their phones with them in schools, but with the strict condition that they can never use them during the school.

The country's education secretary, Gillian Keegan, told BBC Breakfast, We will have no mobile phones in our schools during school hours - these guidelines are in place to introduce a social norm.

 

Gillian Keegan says the policy currently has a mixed picture; Some schools allow mobile use during breaks and others have complete bans.

 

However, Keegan said that if the directive does not work, the government will consider what else needs to be done.

However, the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) union said it did not expect the new guidelines to have any tangible impact. 

However, most schools now ban the use of mobile phones during the day or allow their use only in limited and specific circumstances.
