Cow declared 'Rajyamata' in Maharashtra |
Cow has been declared 'Rajyamata' ahead of assembly elections in India's Maharashtra. The announcement was made by the coalition government of BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde after the cabinet meeting last Monday (September 30).
Assembly elections in Maharashtra at the end of this year. Ahead of those polls, the coalition government of BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP is believed to be arming the cows.
Regarding this decision of the Cabinet, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis told news agency ANI, "Desi cows are a blessing to the farmers. So we have decided to recognize them as Rajyamata.
He also said, "We have decided to extend a helping hand to raise these cows in the Goshala."
The Maharashtra government has also announced a subsidy scheme for cow rearers. Under this scheme, a subsidy of 50 taka per farmer will be given per day for domestic cow rearing.
The chief minister's office said, "Because the income of the cowsheds is low, they are often unable to bear the expenses of running the cowsheds." So the Maharashtra government has decided to strengthen them.
According to the 20th Livestock Census in 2019, there are 46 lakh 13 thousand 632 indigenous cows in Maharashtra. According to the 19th livestock census, the number of indigenous cows has decreased by 20.69 percent compared to the previous one.
After that livestock census, the Maharashtra government took the initiative to increase the number of indigenous cows. As a part of that, the indigenous breed of cow was declared as 'Rajyamata'.
A detailed guideline has been published by the government in this regard. An important part of Indian heritage is the desi cow, the guide said. Over the ages this cow spirituality has made a significant contribution to socio-economics and Ayurveda.
