Anti-Adani protests gain momentum in Kenya

Anti-Adani protests in Kenya

India's Adani Group has opened a new company to acquire and operate an airport in Nairobi, Kenya. But Kenyans don't take the matter well. They have started protests in protest.

India is currently facing a major challenge in South Asian geopolitics. The country's rulers have made India unfriendly to the people in the region due to their relentless attempts to expansionist policies.

This is evident from the recent events in Bangladesh and the Maldives. Almost the same thing is happening in Kenya, Africa.

Kenya has been in the midst of protests against the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his ruling BJP ally Gautam Adani's company. Adani Group recently signed an agreement with the country's authorities to take over Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta Airport.

Both sides say the agreement is aimed at improving the airport. But ordinary people in Kenya say it is a politically influenced Assam agreement. The country has been in agitation since the August 19 agreement was signed.

According to Indian media reports, the Adani Group has opened a subsidiary company there to acquire the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. Kenyan local media reported that concerns have been raised among airport workers since then.

There are many questions about the offerings of the airport to the Adani Group. The Group wants to operate the airport in Kenya for 30 years.

Earlier this year, they offered a total of $750 million. These include the construction of the airport's new terminal building, the renovation of the taxiway and the construction of two new high-speed taxiways.

All the projects are proposed to be completed by 2029. According to local investigative journalists, the deal will give Adani much of the ownership of the airport after 30 years.

The Kenya Aviation Workers Union, the country's aviation operators' union, called a strike on Monday (September 2) over fears of layoffs if the Adani Group takes over the airport.

They are worried about their job security. If the Adani group takes control of the airport, it will be like a wound on a dead body.

Kenya's youth have launched a mass movement against the policies of the William Ruto government. Once they met with the local civil society demanding the cancellation of the airport contract know.
