The Sundarbans Have Been Burning For Three Days

Work has started for the third day to completely control the fire in Amorbunia area of Jeudhara station in Chandpai range of Sundarban East Forest Division.


A fire broke out in the Sundarbans on Saturday (May 4) afternoon. 27 hours have passed after knowing the matter. A lot of time has passed but still the fire has not been brought under control. Along with the fire service, forest department, navy and police, the air force also joined the fire control.


This is not the first time. Mangrove Sundarbans have had 25 fires in the last 22 years. On Saturday (May 4) afternoon, members of the fire service and civil defense along with the forest department and locals worked to put out the forest fire. However, around 12 noon, an air force helicopter joined.


Sprinkle water from above to extinguish the fire. The forest department could not tell how much forest was burnt. However, about 100 acres of forest resources (various vines and shrubs including beautiful trees) were burnt in 24 times of fire.


The fire in Latif area of Amorbunia patrol post of Jeudhara station in Chadpai range of East Sundarban forest division is burning for the second day. A team of Bangladesh Air Force joined the fire control. They started giving water to the fire area from 12:30 pm by helicopter.
