There are rumors that President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari is going to announce his daughter Aseefa Bhutto Zardari as the First Lady of the country.
Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Information Secretary Faisal Karim Kundi confirmed the matter on Monday (March 11), Pakistani media Geo News reported.
Aseefa Bhutto will get all the protocol and government privileges of the First Lady after being officially announced as the First Lady.
If Asif Ali Zardari does indeed name his daughter as the First Lady, Pakistan will break with tradition and enter a new era. Usually the wife of the president is the First Lady.
But after Zardari's wife Benazir Bhutto was shot dead by an assassin in 2007, he did not marry again. Therefore, it is assumed that daughter Aseefa will be the First Lady.
However, former military ruler Field Marshal Ayub Khan declared his daughter Nasim Aurangzeb as the First Lady after becoming President in 1958.
There are many instances in different countries of the world where their daughters, sisters and even nieces have been declared as their first lady after the president has fallen victim.
