Pakistan's Ex PM Imran Khan & his wife have been
sentenced to 14yrs in jail and barred from holding public office for 10yrs.
This is his third conviction, & only a day earlier he was sentenced to
10yrs in another case.
According to newspaper the Dawn, Imran Khan & his wife have been sentenced to in a case related to illegal selling of state gifts.
The sentencing announced by an anti-graft court in Islamabad and it comes on Wednesday, a day after Khan was handed a 10-year jail term in another case in which he was convicted of revealing state secrets. These sentenced are given just a week before national elections.
Imran Khan is now in prison. He is serving a three-year prison sentence which was handed in August, 2023 by another court for selling gifts worth more than 140 million rupees ($501,000) in state possession and received during his 2018-2022 premiership.
He has repeatedly said that he legally purchased the items. But government officials have alleged Khan's aides sold the gifts in Dubai.
Although the sentence was later suspended but Khan remains behind bars in connection with other cases.
Imran's PTI may be banned in Pakistan!
Imran Khan's Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) may be banned in
Pakistan. In the meantime, the anti-PTI camp has started talking about it. It is
being said, if the party's leaders and activists are involved in the violence
that took place across the country on May 9 last year the PTI could be banned.
Local news media The News reported the current Election
Commission of Pakistan (ECP) could unanimously declare that the PTI had
accepted banned funds in August 2003. The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)
government can use this opportunity to ban PTI.
